As a nonprofit organization that relies heavily on governmental funding and private donations, Day Spring Community Living depends on volunteers for its very existence. Our volunteers enjoy working with others like themselves, who are looking for ways to share their talents. Below are some individual and group volunteer opportunities that we offer:

Book Club: You can lead a group of residents on a weekly basis reading and discussing a book at any of our locations

Cooking Support: Do you enjoy cooking? Our residents take turns cooking dinner for their entire home each night. You could spend a few hours helping a resident prepare a meal and teach skills.

Exercise Groups: Day Spring Community Living has a beautiful campus on Illinois Avenue and great access to the sidewalks of the Highlands near our Baxter Avenue campus. If you enjoy walking, you could stop in on a regular basis and lead a walking session with several of our residents.

Gardening: If you have a green thumb, we could use your help. Both campuses have vegetable gardens that need to be maintained during the warm weather. Many residents are interested in helping, but just need some direction and would enjoy working alongside you.

Campus Clean-Up Day: Many groups visit us in the Spring or Fall & stay the entire day cleaning up our campuses. This ranges from raking leaves, trimming shrubs, planting flowers, etc. At times we also have indoor painting opportunities.

Birthday Celebrations: Every other month volunteers help us celebrate resident birthdays and we need help. You could bring your own party supplies or chose from our games.

Special Event Committees: Day Spring hosts 2 events a year and can always use volunteer help to make them a success! If you enjoy planning a great day of golf…there is the annual Day Spring Golf Classic in early October at Lake Forest Country Club ….and if you are a community connector we need your help with hosting a table at our annual Empower Breakfast. We welcome you as a committee member or as a day of event volunteer.

Student Interns: We are an excellent location for any college student interested in gaining day-to-day experience of a health and human services nonprofit that empowers adults with intellectual disabilities. Perfect for Students in fields of Social Work, Communications, Public Health or many other majors.

Friend or Advocate: This varies according to the resident in need. Inquire for more information.

Whatever your interests, chances are Day Spring Community Living has a volunteer opportunity tailor-made to match!
