“Hearing Ms. Lois say ‘Girrl I’m ready!’ (in her Belize accent), is the quote that sums up the lifestyle that we have together,” shared Anita. Lois Barrow and Anita Anderson have been friends for almost a year now and they seem to be a perfect match.
“Lois is visually impaired and when I first met her she basically ate and slept,” said Anita. Lois didn’t really do anything or have much of a life. “I knew there was much more life in her than that. Anita began taking Lois to church where she had the opportunity to socialize and be around people who loved her. We also take trips to the Louisville Zoo and to different parks where I wheel her around and let her hear the laughter of the children as they play.
Another favorite spot for the two is Mall St. Matthews. Anita takes her to different department stores and Lois feels the texture of clothes and jewelry (she loves the long dresses and says she wants a wedding gown!).
Anita and Lois have quite a fun routine and as a result of that, Lois’ health has made drastic improvements. “Her doctors are so excited about her,” said Anita. Whether it’s going to the grocery store or just a ride for fresh air, when Lois wakes up in the morning, the first thing she says is, “Girrl I’m ready!” because she knows she is going to have a good and active day.
